Installing a Home Solar Energy System for Your Home -- By Dave McIntosh

As it has become more and more difficult to be able to afford the rising costs of energy from your local hydro supplier, many people have started looking to generating their own electricity with a home solar energy system. All they need to do is capture the free energy from the sun that's presently going to waste every day. And you too can be a part of it.
You know I'm right because you have been looking at it for a while now. I bet you already know some of the advantages to such systems, like the facts that:
-It is a renewable energy source.
-It is clean energy.
-It produces no greenhouse gasses.
-It lowers our dependency on our local power company and on non renewable energy sources at home and in foreign countries.
-It will lower our electricity bills.
-And one that not many think about: it adds value to our home.
But have you studied about solar electrical systems and understand how they work?
Home solar energy systems generate electricity that we can use to power anything that used electricity around the house. The solar cells capture energy from the sun and with this energy creates DC power. Then through an inverter the DC power is converted into AC power that we use around our home. To that basic system you can add a battery backup system that charges while the sun is shining and can be used at peak usage times, or whenever the sun isn't shining. They're also designed to interconnect with the existing power grid that services your home so that you can use either of them or feed back into the grid any extra energy you generate but don't use.
There is some basic information you will want to know when you start deciding on a solar electric system for your house. And the first step is deciding on your energy requirements. This will include knowing the energy requirements of your appliances and other electronic and electricity users. This will help you decide on the size of the solar energy system that will best serve your needs.
Most homes use either electricity or gas for things in their house like the furnace, hot water, the clothes dryer or the stove. When a person wants to switch solar electricity for their home they will want to make sure they use gas for these appliances to reduce their solar electric needs. This will result in you only having to power things like the refrigerator, your lights, computer, TV & stereo equipment, and any motors for things like the furnace fan, etc. with solar electricity.
Commercially available solar systems are not cheap but they are getting cheaper and you could also build your own.
Whichever you choose it is important to reduce your electricity consumption needs as much as possible. To do that you can do things like using a laptop computer instead of a desktop one with a monitor.
You could use fluorescent lights instead of the regular incandescent bulbs.
You would get a smaller more efficient refrigerator.
And many more.
By doing these things you will be able to reduce your average power consumption significantly and therefore the size and cost of the solar system you will need which could bring a solar system into the realm of your possibility.
One of the great things about solar energy is that it has unlimited potential. By using a solar electric system for your home you could easily save $1000's on your utility bills. Have you decided yet to go green by utilizing the power from the sun to power your home?
Dave McIntosh has been in the renovation business for more than 30 years. He also believes strongly in going green.
